“I wish to pen a letter. The letter is to the two of us, to the less-than-clean break we went through, that winter. The letter is to that Christmas and that Christmas tree missing its star. The letter is to this city, a city where one falls in love, and a city where one descends into loneliness.”

This two-part series comprising Lullaby and For Lily features a young man in Taipei. He had just moved out of the apartment he shared with his girlfriend, the two of them having broken up not too long ago, and is seen wandering the streets of Taipei in winter. He is waiting for the arrival of Christmas, as well as for some occurrence that will break this monotony.

The story is told over two songs, which are like two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Lullaby marks the start of this journey, in which the man visits a hotel, the house of a friend at which he stayed, a fountain where he stares into space, and a bar, and encounters random girls and a bar singer. We then follow him home, where he sits on a familiar sofa, meets his most familiar companion, and eats noodles that taste familiar to him. The increasingly stirring melody of For Lily transports us to Christmas Eve. On the streets of this festive evening, under the flickering street lights, two individuals set out on their respective paths, bringing the story to a close.
